oh... Wait.
So... I just realized that the week or so I'd like to be gone to go to NC and SF is the week before my boss is due to have her baby- and it'd be pretty lame for me to not be here then.
But, our office is so lax and cool about stuff.
Do I still ask for the few days off and see what she says, or is that just dumb and inconsiderate?

If you were sick, would this conversation make sense? "I have the flu." "Yes but so and so has a worse illness than you, you should come in."
If you were sick, you'd just not go and they'd just have to deal with it. KWIM?
By asking for the time off in advance, you're presenting them more freedom than they would get if you were sick and out on a moment's notice (i.e., when you call in at 7 a.m. and say you're not coming in, they have less time to deal than three weeks in advance). The "legitimacy" of illness over against vacation is ... sort of ridiculous in this day and age.
Besides, I heard Carolina is gettin all uppity and called you weak.
