Lest everyone start believing I'm always stressed and crabby and stuff, here's a whole entry of cool stuff.

Tonight, s4 and I went to see [livejournal.com profile] r4c as half of Boxcutter, who was able to get us in for free. Yay, free! The show was at Big V's. Neither of us had ever been there, but it has the feel of a somewhat seedy bar that's always been there and always will be, a bit like if the CC Club had an older brother in St. Paul or soemthing. The regulars sporting meshbacks there do so with no ironic intentions, I'm fairly certain. We got there in time to hear that the bands were pushed back nearly an hour. No problem, that just meant more time for more Dr. Who pinball with [livejournal.com profile] doloresdewberry!
For a quarter!
I know!

Then we scored a drink ticket each. More free! Yay!

Boxcutter. I don't think Big V's has seen anything like Boxcutter. A nice, big, wall of cello-guitar-laptop-stompbox-created Noise. Yup. When someone throws a guitar pick at your head 'cause you can't hear them yelling at you over the noise you're making, I guess that's a cue for something or other.

Dallas Orbiter. The best description I could come up for these guys is music that has that 70's fuzzy filter on it. Very Pink Floyd. Lots of old skool synth, played much the way they were when they were made. Take that how you will. Not used how I'd probably use them, really... Had a Nord lead, a kinda woefully neglected MS-20, and two behemoths of 70's creation (but I don't know which ones specifically.) Lots of guitar, too. Not a bad band, but didn't really do it for me. I played pinball through most of their set.

Signal and Report. I understand the buzz. I commented that I'd like them better if I liked Joy Division more than I do. (This isn't a slam at all, just an acknowlegement that, despite the fact that purists would have me hanged, I like New Order better.) Anyway. Yeah. Really tight early-gothy-inspired rock + keys. They're good, I imagine they'll stick around a while. If you like Joy Division, or the Sisters, or Bauhaus, you'd probably like Signal and Report. Unfortunately, we were getting tired and left before the end of their set.

Then s4 indulged my snacky craving, and we procured Dutch Crunch chips and dip (I blame yooooou, r4c!) before returning home.

Tomorrow I get to sit in a hot tub for free, too.
Oh, and echoegami gave me noodles today, too.

In conclusion: When I am poor, and the universe grants me a free show, a free beer, cheap pinball, and noodles -all in one day- I am grateful.

The end.
