Things and stuff
Jan. 17th, 2005 11:59 amEnjoying my long weekend which has included sleeping in and having girl-time with a hot tub and sauna included. That rules, especially when it's below zero outside.
I finished my very first knitting thing yesterday, so I'm proud of myself. Mom gets a scarf. I am planning a trip to the yarn store today so I can get stuff for my next thing.
I practiced clarinet again yesterday. It's really interesting to just *feel* how and why I can and can't do things. I can really tell when my embrochure is too weak, but I can feel it improving at the same time. Cool. I think I'll have to try to get into regular practice so my new mouth muscles don't atrophy away and I get better sooner. Clarinet takes a lot more mouth muscle to play well than saxophone does. When I tell people that, they're generally surprised. I think after a certain level, proficiency on all instruments basically levels out, but certainly sometimes the learning curves are different.
I went to a party on Saturday thrown by the girl my old roommate dated when we lived together. Back then she lived out of town and would stay with us most weekends. We got to know each other pretty well back then. She and A helped pull me out of my recently dumped funk, and actually took me to the first rave I ever went to. They broke up when she went to college out of state, but now she's graduated and living back in town. She used to be a 'cello performance major, and had offered to teach me to play back then. The bow needed repair and we never got around to it, but the offer came back at the party- so maybe I'll learn 'cello as well as clarinet this year. It'd be interesting, since string instruments as a whole are kind of a mental block for me. And I looooove the tone of 'cellos.
Been spending a lot of time connecting and reconnecting with people lately. I wish it wasn't born out of strangeness, but I'll take the goodness that's coming out of it and appreciate it on its own merit.
Looking forward to the trip to New York, especially now that I'll probably get to see
azure_armand and
birdfigment along with all the other folks. Hooray!
