S4 and I met over lunchtime to look at some apartments near my workplace. They were supremely underwhelming. They're "lofts" in the sense that they have big windows and high ceilings in buildings that used to be factories and warehouses, but everything else about them was like our crappy 60's shoebox apartment in uptown. No big beams, no wood floors, no exposed brick. More expensive, yet smaller. Painted metal closet doors. Carpet. Bad, cheap, neutral carpet. Sucks the soul right out of an otherwise awesome 100+ year old building right quick, that does.
We're going to an open house for the artists co-op this weekend and I have my hopes up for that to work out even though it's a longshot. Otherwise, I think we might have to give up the hope of finding some other affordable place we like in Lowertown.
We got our official "kicked out" notice this week; we have to be out by August. Not so bad, we have a little bit of time. We still haven't asked what they'd sell our place for. Since we've now seen what really boring places will rent for I'm actually warming up to the possibility of buying our place and fixing it up. I wonder what it costs to get a window punched into a brick wall...
