Doctors and Derby and Hand Therapy
Apr. 14th, 2006 02:59 pmSo, I finally called about the X-ray, and sat on hold for a half hour, and had a nurse cheerfully tell me "Oh! Yup. It's normal." I could tell she was all done and about to hang up so I quickly asked what my next step should be. She seemed surprised when I told her that it was still about as painful and swollen as it had been almost two months ago. I prompted that my doctor had recommended possible therapy. Apparently my doctor is on maternity leave. I didn't even notice that she was pregnant when I was there. Nurse said she'd share my file with doctors not on materinty leave and see if they still thought that was a good idea. Got a call back just now that I'm cleared for hand therapy, but when I asked if they had a referral she just kinda went through the phone book, so I figure I can do that just as well on my own.
I'm pretty annoyed with the service I got this time around- both the non-followup, the long hold time, and not even a mention off-handedly that my chosen doc wouldn't be around or a possible person with whom I might follow up- I know due dates aren't clockwork and I'm extra sympathetic to maternity leave as my boss just came back- but still, it would have taken two seconds, and it would have been nice to know there was a reason behind the not-following-up before I sat around waiting to hear about it. Eh, well, whatever.
I liked the idea of going to a Health Center for Women, but, despite not being listed as a specialty or OB-GYN clinic, that's really what it feels like. I'd probably still go there for my annual, but I think I want to find someone else for GP stuff or, hell, for sports medicine. The last two visits I had were derby related. Plus, as S4 mentioned, since I'm now bruise-ridden fairly often, I'm a lot less likely to get the hairy eyeball about that from a sports doctor as I am from a doctor in a women's health clinic... Do you feel you're in danger at home? Bonnie Rotten made herself a tee shirt that says "I'm Not Abused, I'm a Rollergirl". Nice. Jawbreaker should borrow it; she's sporting another black eye from Fight Club this week.
So, anyway, long story short: I'm looking for a hand therapist covered by Medica. Frost? Pied Piper? Buttons? Got any good ideas?
