"Neighbor", in our artists' co-op, means neighbor in kind of a small town sense... we all know each other and work together. We have pot lucks and pumpkin carvings and orphan Thanksgivings and spring cleaning day. We have troublemakers and alliances and old rivalries and older friendships and meetings that last too long and arguments about pets and bills and when we should buy new washing machines. We tell each other when we have art openings and performances. When the Con schedule allows, S4 and I watch the fireworks over the Mississippi on the roof of our building with everyone. I don't want to sound cult-y, but we are, basically, a kind of family. Lowertown is like a tiny artist-town stuck in the middle of a major downtown metropolitan area - it's a lot of why I like it here so much. And it's also why it sucks so much when someone like Jean is suddenly gone.
