(no subject)

rgeorge came over and picked up a windshield and tinkered about with my bike a bit.
Now, instead of stalling once it starts, it won't start at all. Poop.

But seriously, folks...

You checked your plug(s), right?

In my defense, it refused to work before I started messing with it.

(executive summary for future reference:
- Carb bowls weren't full, even though the petcock (huh huh huh petcock) was open. Wiggling it fixed this.
- Did not appear to have spark on either cylinder, even though the engine stop switch was set to "on". This is consistent with not hearing it fire even once.
- Battery and starter were fine and did plenty of full-speed cranking.
- The screws on the points cover (and the equivalent ones on the other side, over what I assume is the stator) appear to have been set with an impact driver, then stripped, then filled with jb-weld in order to make new slots, then stripped again. A big hammer was not handy to use with my own impact driver. So, spark at the points is unknown.
- Since the coils are up inside the gas tank, and I didn't feel like pulling it, condition of the coils is unknown.

Hypothesis: since it was raining both times it had trouble starting, and the electrical system is mostly original and has dodgy repair work already done to it, a wire somewhere is getting shorted when wet and preventing ignition.)

Gah, sorry, didn't mean to make it sound like you wrecked it or anything. ;) I'm grateful for the help.

Uh. Okay.
How 'bout you come fix it, bitch? I got your gratitude right here.
