Yet more burn prep

Yesterday we bought a bike rack. Fortunately, it looks like it will suit my weird little trike and S4's regular bike simultaneously, which we'd been worried about.
Today, we did a test-load of the Saturn, and acquiesed. We cannot comfortably fit all of our camping crap in it and our (rather heavy) bikes on the back of it, plus ourselves, plus my music and derby gear and be sure that we wouldn't be permanently damaging the suspension on our journey over and back across the continental divide. We decided to rent a light SUV to take out instead. Found a good deal with unlimited mileage plus an internet coupon, so.. while I'm a little bummed out about spending more money that I'd hoped on the journey, will have greater peace of mind.

Been practicing my set subbing with the Kurzweil. It's been a little unsatisfying and I've had some weird technical problems. Feel like I've been playing the same set for too long. I guess I'd feel better about that if I thought my performances were tighter. It was an off practice tonight, yesterday was better. I still like the new Ableton/MOTU setup a lot, but have decided that after this trip (and the show I already agreed to play the Friday night we get back) that I'm not going to chase any live shows until I get the film score and an album finished.

I've kinda been digging on the cold and rainy weather. It feels refreshingly autumnal. The first apples have shown up at the farmers market in the last few weeks. We bought more today and made apple crisp late tonight. That helped get me out of my kinda "eh" feeling pretty nicely. Mmm, brown sugar.

yeah, that's a little crazy. It's a pretty low-key thing, it's for an art opening. So, it's background music more than it's Performing.

How did I miss that you had a Kurzweil? I had no idea. Weeeird. The Mr. usually keeps me on the ball with these things...

Any Honeycrisp apples show up at the market yet? I've been dying for them for the last nine months or so. *drools*

Dunno! I've had it since college, got it in.. the summer of '99? near the beginning of the end of Zurround, I think. It was the first big-ticket gear I bought, and still ranks the most expensive, though it's depreciated a lot since then. Floppy drive and SCSI, baby! I used it a lot for sound design projects. I use it much less, now, but it comes in handy for scoring and it has good piano sounds. I dislike using it for performance, mostly because it's such a tank.

Bummer on the testload, but glad you found a good alternative. Where did you find the deal? We have a reservation with Alamo, but we're still looking for options and coupons are good...

We went with Alamo, too. The coupon I found in an ad doing a google search. We also did a prepay, which gave us an additional discount.

Oh, nice! I'll have to hunt down that internet coupon...

thanks! :)

ahhh...rainy fall weather...apple crisp...brown sugar...weird.

Just realized that they charge $10/day for an additional driver. ouch! Not as awesome a deal as we thought, but still not bad.

ouch! Hrm... we reserved through expedia and it was fine. Oh - I think the way around it is that you have to be married/partnered, etc. Then you're automatically an extra driver without the charge.
