Wha?

I was just informed that Ashcroft resigned.

He'd been talking about it since the election. He wasn't planning on being a part of the second administration. Actually it sounds like a whole lot of the cabinet will be different. I know Powell, is expected to leave, as is Condoleeza Rice, and possibly Rumsfeld.

Condi's thinking of leaving, too? I hadn't heard that. In fact, I'd heard the opposite suggested -- that she was a possible/probable replacement for Powell. Interesting.

I can only hope we can't do any worse...

Ashcroft AND Evans

Apparently Giuliani's name is being bandied about to replace Ashcroft, but the right-wingers are thinking they don't like that he is Pro-Choice and Pro-Civil Unions. I guess Giuliani is also considered a possible replacement for Tom Ridge, who is also expected to step down.

Oh, and apparently Condi is really up in the air. She is considered a possible replacement for Rumsfeld or Powell. Oh, and they're talking about Wolfowitz to replace her. Yikes.

“The objective of securing the safety of Americans from crime and terror has been achieved,”

HAAHAHAHAAHA.

ahem.

ha.

No kidding. I'm clearly* not in prison.

I'm worried about who he'll replace them with. He has only gotten crazier in last four years. He’ll select replacements that share his madness.

Fear

A friend of mine, to ensure I don't sleep well at night suggested something else.
As a bar lawyer (indeed ex-law prof) Ashcroft could be cutting free so he could be appointed to the Supreme Court.

I think that's about the most frightening choice available. He has the experience, he's on the bar, and they won't likely ever have a better chance to ram someone like him in for life.

Thank heavens Ashcroft is an old coot. 72. He'll kick off fast enough, even if he does wind up on the court.

This was kind of an interesting little summary of the cabinet situation:

The idea of Guiliani as "Director of Homeland Security" made me laugh the same way seeing the original TIA logo did. Yikes.

He totally forgot to mention that to Bush and Cheney before the election... wasn't that 75% of what Cheney talked about whenever he was in public? Grrr! Terrorist boogey men are going to get you if you elect those ineffectual Democrats because we're the only ones who can save you! Grrr!

Ashcroft totally wants to be appointed to the Supreme Court. What an asshat.

The likeliest candidate is Gonzales (I think that's the right name) - the guy who has been writing up law studies to show that torturing people is okay.
