Back to work.

Had a pretty decent long weekend.

Thursday, S4 went to Wisconsin and I didn't. I made yummy vegan calzones for WASTEgiving. This took a long time, but they were well received so it was worth it. I cleaned the old apartment some, and went to hang out with my family and not eat anything. I still feel kind of guilty for skimping on family time, but I've given them over a decade to be more accomodating about the whole vegetarian thing and they just can't compete with the vegan potluck, nor have they tried. I brought my own super yummy vegetarian thing to my family's gathering two years ago that I spent forever on, and everyone was too weirded out to even try it, so I made vegan thanksgiving my priority isntead. I never understood why people were excited about the culinary aspects of Thanksgiving until I had one replete with amazing homemade food that I actually get really excited about eating and having left over. I guess I never thought turkey was all that, even when I ate meat as a kid. I bet little kids would be way more thankful for bountiful frozen pizzas, though it kind of throws off tradition. "Today we celebrate the Indians sharing their knowledge of a properly preheated oven..." Anyway.

Non-profits typically give people the Friday after Thanksgiving off paid. Woohoo! I celebrated by sleeping in, eating leftovers and watching a bunch of Dr. Who with [livejournal.com profile] djnoise and [livejournal.com profile] hominidgrrl, which was lovely. I looked for cheap paint, but didn't find any and can gladly say I bought nothing. Except gas. Oops. I kind of needed it, unfortunately. Shoulda thunk ahead, though I still don't think this makes me a rabid unthinking consumer, just mindful of not getting stranded.

Watch spacebug and s4. Watch spacebug and s4 run errands! We bought useful, boring things at Target, did a bang-up job at resisting buying more useful yet boring things, and also bought lots of paint. We kicked the old apartment's ass with liberal doses of abrasive scrub, packed up the remnants of the place, and went back to the new home and painted. Were soon paid a visit by s4's parents, who, in the true Minnesota definition of the word, find our new apartment "interesting". (For my few out-of-state lj friends who may be unfamiliar with the midwestern mindset and/or the concept of "Minnesota Nice", saying "...that's...interesting" is the polite way of saying something akin to "Holy freaking crap, you weirdos, you're paying MONEY to live here?" My hair is also commonly described by middle aged midwesterners as "interesting", as are my photos from Burning Man.) S4's Mom has supplied hopefully a few times that St. Paul is awfully close to Stillwater and won't we be able to visit much more often now? They're really quite endearing, as Bush supporters go. We painted and painted, until we wanted beer. Then my car broke. (sigh)

Sunday morning was really frustrating for a lot of reasons, most of which was car-breaking related. I stayed frustrated and annoyed and feeling broke and unlucky for quite a while, wishing I'd have just stayed in bed, but my friends and a soy mocha did a pretty good job of pulling me out of the funk, as did getting a lot of painting done on the new place with a lot of fabulous help from [livejournal.com profile] star5. Also went to the old place and put the loft out for [livejournal.com profile] moderndrama. Went to pick up s4 from work. He was really busy and late, and that would have been super annoying to me if dangerdhotod hadn't come along with me for the ride. Because he was there it became fun, and we just sat and played kids' computer games until he was done. Then, the tides of goodness continued with big big delicious salads, cobbler and soyicecream, Red Dwarf and cozy futons. So my Sunday was pretty admirably redeemed.

Today, I'm sore from all the painting.
The shop called and the car will cost $235 to fix. Not so bad, but I really wish it hadn't come on the tail of the whole bumping Wisconsin-asshole's car, which will probably end up costing me at least $500. Urgh.

Maybe this week, qwest will see fit to get back to me about whether or not we can have DSL at our new apartment. Internet at home again would be reeeeaaaalllly nice.

Awesome. You rule. That suits me just fine. I'll have to find some nice vegan food to feed you for your trouble, and maybe some software.

It wasn't the belt so much as it was a pulley that melted, causing the belt to slip. So the pulley needed to be replaced as well as the belt, and the battery was effected somehow so they charged and tested that. It's done now though, so I can go pick it up tonight.

I'm glad someone* thinks so!
