...a few more hours says I want to not go to bed and keep playing with the new gear, but my sleepy self says otherwise.

(warning, synth geekery.)

The ion is like the Prophet Plus. So far the architecture pleases me so. I still feel like I have to learn it, but it's a fun climb instead of a frustrating one, and I feel like I'm getting a halfway decent feel for what it can do already. I think all the people who were excited about my getting this were right on the money. Still need to delve into a bunch of stuff (like effects and LFO tweaks and what exactly the pre and post filter adjustments can do for me) but damn if this thing doesn't feel like it makes a whole bunch of sense, especially for someone so weaned on the ol' sequential circuits. Multi-function buttons that are easy to use! LED's that give useful information! Tap tempo! Two mod wheels! Rubbery 360 degree knobbiness! Big red volume knob! Graphical envelope editing that doesn't suck! A knob specifically for noise, and you can even choose the kind! I still think the analog drift parameter is kinda silly, but kind of in an endearing way.

(end of synth geekery.)

I need to record something soon, for many many reasons.

That boyfriend of mine that I haven't seen enough lately now has to work all weekend, so maybe I'll get something down soon. They're never going to get me to buy an Apple at this point. Damnit, Jobs, I want S4 to have a freaking weekend day off. I'd even blaspheme enough to request two. In a row. Sometime. Christ on a cracker.

[livejournal.com profile] r4c rocked out, as did S4 on the visuals. Sadly, my sleepy self went home before Hecate, but my badass bandmate still claims I get extra points for showing up after all the travel *and* with a new LED-laden temptress at home.

Ah, shit. It got all late...

Good synth geekery! I know just how much interface matters; I just got a new JTAG probe at the office, and my immediate and lasting impression is BASIC!? You PROGRAM THIS FUCKER IN BASIC?! FUCK that SHIT!. I am so incredibly disappointed. Even though it's got a bunch of cool features over the crap I was using before, I'm going straight back because I just don't have time to relive eleventh grade.

I'm glad you're likin' on the new toy. I woulda felt all like a schmuck if you didn't.

The analog drift param isn't as silly as you think. In tandem with the FM controls, you can use it to make an endless stream of non-repeating sound.

I hope you get to spend some time with y'r boyfriend soon. Say hi fer me.

Ooh, good point. I just barely started playing with the FM bits! Even if it wasn't as cool as it is, I couldn't really turn it down. Good ol' bleep sold it to me with the tail of its warranty still in effect, freshly repaired, with brand new (ion specific!)gig bag, for $300 below list. I'm not sure whose the bigger sucker- him for the things he'll do to afford even schmancier gear, or me since he usually knows I'll be interested in buying something he's getting rid of to that end. :)

There's sump'n awful cool hidden in one of the dark spaces of menus on the beastie. In the pre-filter mix edit, on the very last (rightmost) page there's a "f1->f2" parameter which controls how much of the output from filter one goes into the input to filter two. You can get some really nastyhappy filter stuff happening like that, especially if filter two is one of the varieties that emulate filter-input overdrive ("rp lpf" and "mg lpf" if I recall correctly. The former is usually a little crunkier). Hoohaw.

why can't he get one day a weekend off? that's usually the way it works, at least at my store. not this weekend for me, though... tell s4 to put his foot down.

That's usually the way it works, but there don't seem to be enough management types to juggle around days off, lots of people are getting all kinds of sick, and if anyone has to go on vacation or leave for a day, it seems to fuck everyone else pretty good. It's just extra annoying when I was gone for nearly a week, and then we still don't get to hang out at all and he's working 6 days in a row. Add rather commonplace stuff like that with the busting ass at Christmastime, going time and again over one of the goals and still no bonus or recognition to speak of, and I'm starting to iHate.
