I think I need to make clothes that
a)fit well, and
b) that I like
more of a priority in my life. I'm finding more and more that a is necessary for b. I wish this could be made more of a priority without the money and shopping parts. Well, the shopping might be sort of okay. At least my boyfriend likes that part a lot and makes it fun. (We kind of have a gender role-reversal that way...) I just get weird about spending money on clothes because I already *have* clothes. I'd rather save it until I have more money so I can go on a trip or buy some gear or something. But I'm not feeling happy with my clothes lately. They're all black and grey, and I'm (gasp) thinking about more color in my life. And I like having jeans that actually fit well (I have about 1.5 pair that I wear all the time now.) And I want more teeshirts that aren't tents. Stuff like that. This is tricky when I still fancy myself a low maintenance, wash 'n' wear kinda girl. Can't it fit well, be cheap, wash easily, not shrink in the dryer *and* look cute? Aren't we living in the future yet? And while I'm at it, where the hell is my rocket car and/or personal jet pack?

Huh?

Hell, even the used Jetta we want is being pokey about getting itself through the necessary bureaucracy. Apparently, I am living in crazyland.

At least the people are interesting here.

La, la, la...

Huh. I, just this morning, sent something I thought might be too colorful (that, and it's probably the wrong kind of color).

Listen Mrs. Peacock color is our friend. I can frequntly help with the shopping dilema. Except not right now. There are NO CUTE CLOTHES out at all. S4 found that out at x-mas adn it has only gotten worse. I'll let you know when shopping is good again.

You are absolutely right. NO CUTE CLOTHES. Only ugly things with bad colors and gold sequins, which just aren't right at all. I tried shopping this past weekend, and only found 2 sweaters/jackets I liked, and then only because they were end-of-winter clearance and also because everything else was crap.

i totally like going to thrift stores and being super picky where you just through and crap _tons_ of crap you think might be cool then you try it on and you only buy it if it fits perfectly and looks good. let's go shopping some time! spring is the perfect time too because then you can lots of cute t-shirts and things for the summer.

I used to do that, too (not buy new clothes and save up for important things like trips and gear), but it turns out that making clothes that fit well, etc. makes me feel good.

I generally hated shopping because I would ball it all up into one day of "get everything done efficiently and at minimal cost" instead of going out semi-regularly, in a relaxed manner, with a bit of a budget and adding things that I like to what I have.

Turns out it's kinda fun, and I have pretty good luck with clearance, and instead of looking at my closet and thinking "what will be comfy and make me look the least crappy?" I'm excited to wear stuff.

that's my fitty-cent.

Right on.

I'd say try new "high tech" fabrics, but I hear they're spendy. I'm trying to find clothes of the wash-and-wear variety that do magical things and fold up really small for traveling.

I hate my clothes too, I'm in the same boat as I a) hate spending money and b) hate shopping and c) nothing really fits, its all too short or too baggy. My mum sends me most of my clothes, and unfortunately this has gotten a little old as I haven't had the opportunity to update her on my changing tastes. And I want to burn all of my black velour clothing, which I used to like, but now make me look like a deranged cat lady on account of all the clinging cat hair. People comment on it and all the sticky rollers in the world won't help.

My general solution is to wait till I'm travelling. For some reason, shopping in a new place (especially France) is much more palatable than shopping at home. But this isn't really going to work for the immediate future. Sigh.

Yeah, I like shopping when travelling, too. It makes it easier to justify spending money somehow. I think once S4 and I get to Chicago like we've been wanting...

It's all about using the low setting on the dryer and cold water in the washer (whenever you can). Then you can wash almost anything without it shrinking too much, and the stuff that absolutely can't go in the dryer can hang in the bathroom over night.

Ooh, and magical finds on clearance racks. Buying stuff slightly out-of-season on sale works well, especially since you don't fall for all the super-trendy stuff and well-fitting basics will last you for at least a couple years. When I find something I really like, especially pants, I tend to buy muliple pairs of the style in the colors I'd wear (at least, when I have extra monies for that). Because if I really like them I'll wear them a lot and then wear them out and be sad in three years when they're all worn out.

I just bought a new pair of Type 1 levis off of E-bay. The only pants ever to fit my ass and they don't make them any more! So now I am buying all I find.

that's true. overacheivers spend all their time doing homework and therefore socialize little. but sometime in a few months when you have had time to implement your ikea shopping and beam swing and i've had a chance to pass all my classes, we'll have a loft-y supergame and then, then we shall all be seen.

Crazy, I was just having the same thought. I decided to get a new wardrobe about 3 or 4 months ago. Alexis gave me some advice. She knows lots about clothes. Clothes that fit well have suddenly become very important to me.

Heh, man, you used to get so mad at me when I would tease you about your gray wardrobe though. :>

I still *like* my grey clothes, I just want other clothes too! And actually, I ended up buying a new pair of jeans tonight.

...and they're grey.

I guess old habits die hard. :)
