1. And lo, it goes. Got the bike running this weekend. It didn't start *right* up, but it only took a little prodding to get it running again. Yay!

Can anyone (lex? rogers? vax?) recommend a good place that I can take a 20+ year old bike and just... get it checked out? Everything feels okay to me, but it's my first bike and it's old, I've only got one season under me and I want to keep it running well and not be in danger of breakdown if there are things that are easily fixable. I know that I need to change the oil for spring and that it'd be a good idea to get new tires before I go very far this year, and that I could also use new brake pads. Other than that... I dunno. But I also don't want to bring it somewhere holding a big flashing "I'm just a girl, feel free to screw me over" sign.
I have one name, but suggestions are good...
On that note, my normal roadside assistance doesn't cover motorcycles. If any bikers have advice on that, I'd be interested. I can't really think of any truck-friends who could easily help bail me 'n' Feigal out if something nasty happened on the freeway, and that scares me.

I still also wanna put new handlebars on sometime this summer. And I'd like a new helmet that fits better. And then I'd have a spare and could take a passenger sometime. Though that's a little scary to me, since I'm sooo skeeeeny.

2. Final yoga class already tonight. Six weeks went by like nothin'.
3. I am full of worky slack. Such terrible spring feverness.
4. New boss had her first day today, except I was the only one here. She is very nice, and turns out also to be friends with household [livejournal.com profile] burnunit. Think we'll get on fine.

And I just realized that, through an interesting confluence of events, I don't have my housekeys with me, and that my motorcycle key is sitting unhelpfully on the table at home, next to my helmet.

Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] star5... I wasn't thinking today. Hope traffic doesn't suck.

I'd try Roy's Repair in S. Mpls for the bike check-up. They do a lot of work on older bikes. They've always treated me well there (not like a girl), so I like 'em.

I don't have any roadside assistance coverage on my insurance either. I have broken down twice, and just called someone to come help. In both cases the bike was able to run again after doing roadside repairs.

My bike's.. what.. 24 years old, and I get all my work done at The Hitching Post in south st. paul. They're a dealer, so not supercheap, and it's kind of a ways - sort of where 494 turns north to cross the river - but they've always done right by me. They have a branch just a few blocks from the new house, but that one doesn't do honda work. poo.

You can ask for a spring tune-up with oil change (what I get), which will be around $100, or ask to have the bike checked out as if you were buying it, which will be more.

(DON'T go to Hondatown. I think the only thing right they ever did was sell me an oil filter.)

I just switched to Progressive for insurance, and not only are they cheap, but offer roadside assistance for bikes fairly cheaply. And they score well on buyblue.org!

Ah, cool. My bike's insurance is through Progressive too, I hadn't noticed that.
