Okay, so I agreed to do this transcription project for [livejournal.com profile] windelina. And I managed to get a recording of the song, which was kind of a stupid affair. (Thank you, Itunes, for being stupid.) And then I actually managed to locate my staff paper. Kind of a feat, since I don't remember the last time I used the stuff. (Ah, the digital age.) And then, since staff paper and music notation is one of those things that even I, a stern ink-over-graphite adherent, will acquiesce really, really needs to be done in pencil. It's just the way it is. And I find a stubby Ikea golf pencil to get me on my way. And then I plug in the Kurzweil for some reference. Oh, right, not plugged in. Find power cord. Oh, no audio. Okay. Find audio cable. Okay. Sound. Recording. Partial sheet music. Staff paper. Pencil. We are ready to ROCK. What do I do? I get not even one measure in, and I need to erase. (Self, we decided to do 3/4 and not 6/8, that needs to be a half note.) Whose house doesn't have one, one pencil with an eraser on? That'd be mine. Not in my desk drawer. Not in the pen cup. Not in with the art stuff.

Jesus.

I'm off to a really brilliant start with this thing.

If you think that's frustrating - try imagining you're me trying to transcribe a piece of music.

But you are so perfect!

If you had dug deep enough, you may have stumbled upon my very serious handed down from a patent artist motorized eraser. And when I say motorized, I mean at least 4 horses if not 6. Then you could do some serious erasing. But then again, we are both so perfect all the time, who need such things as back ends of pencils.

If it makes you feel any better, I ran into the same lack-o-pencils problem a week ago. I actually had to make a point to go to the store and buy some, just so I could work on a modeling project!

You need transcription software. Just play it and print. (...and look at the cues that the software screwed up, fix'em and print again.)

I knew someone would suggest that. I still lug a luddite foot around when it comes to transcription. Doing it by hand is the best error-correction for me, strangely.

great!

Well, fortunately, my workplace has the opposite problem- we have a really ridiculous amount of pencils for an office of four pen-users. We can help each other!

I always forget thread when I'm starting a sewing project. Random, but related.

Do my notes on the changes make sense now that you've heard the music?
