Went rollerskating last night, which ended up being a wholly good idea. I hadn't been for a few weeks and my legs were pretty good about reminding me.

Also, yoga is good for me. I came home, and as I leaned over to chat with S4, holding myself up with my arm, he stopped in midsentence, saying he noticed actual definition in my upper arm muscles. He may just be humoring me, but it felt pretty cool. My lack of upper arm strength has been a part of my existence since I was a little kid- I was the lame-o in gym class who couldn't do a single pull-up. Regardless, I was involved in a whole slew of community sports stuff and took gymnastics classes for a while before realizing that, not only was I not any good at most of it, I wasn't really having all that much fun. I'd wanted to take gymnastics mostly because I wanted to learn to fly around on the uneven bars, but I could never manage even the most basic moves because my arms were too weak. We had a mini-gymnastics meet and my best placement was second-to-last. I was always better at dance (it didn't occur to me until much later that that was likely because it's so closely related to music.)
So, anyway. In the last couple months of doing yoga, I've realized that the first muscles to fatigue are usually in my arms, which makes sense. So it's really cool to have someone who sees me everyday notice a visible difference in something that's always been a weak point- even with all that hauling around of gear and everything.

Other bits of random thought:

-Boy, I'd sure like it if the sun came out.
-Key Lime Silk yogurt is yummy.
-I like having a well stocked kitchen a lot.

S4 says incomprehensible things when he's between sleep and wakefulness, which I find quite adorable. Today, he told me "This computer should have a wireless card" followed by something about football uniforms. I asked him more about the football uniform thing, and he grabbed a pillow and mashed it into his face, saying "It's too early to talk to people!"

And fell promptly back asleep.

I noticed some muscle in your upper arms that I didn't remember...
Cool! (I don't remember what shirt I was wearing. Hmm.)

I don't really know much about the different kinds. This is only my second (6-week) session, and I take it at the Y so it's pretty regular-fitness based and basic, and doesn't get much into the spiritual side of it, which is fine with me. I don't even know what style we're doing but I'd guess it's Hatha- we're pretty much just learning different postures and stretches and sun salutations. Bikram is the hot-room kind, isn't it? That's weird, I'd guess that that might make you less likely to injure yourself since the extra heat is supposed to make you more flexible. Maybe your competitive streak kicks in and you push yourself more than you should? :) Don't really know. If your teacher's good s/he might know what's up or offer alternative ways to do things if they feel weird or uncomfortable.

Gym class...pull-ups...nope, I could barely do one myself. I think the only time I ever had killer upper arm muscle was when I was 16 and bussing tables at the dinner theatre. To see definition though, that's pretty sweet! Yoga did it? neat.

Regarding different kinds of yoga, this list of styles and descriptions (http://www.yogatreesf.com/yoga/classdescriptions.html) (per a yoga studio here) might be of interest to you.

cheers
