Yoga this week kinda kicked my ass.
However, my slowly-getting-less-weaky little arms managed to pull off part of a sequence I hadn't previously been able to do because my arms weren't strong enough. I can still only do it once, but hey, as my coworker often says, the difference between zero and one is huge.

Derby was drills, some reprimanding in push-up form (the head ref is ex-military and kinda push-up happy). So yah, my little arms are feelin' it today. We also played several rounds of Queen of the Rink, where we all skate around and try to knock each other down or out of bounds (if you fall over or go out of bounds, you sit out for the rest of the round.)

As I most often get knocked down or pushed out of bounds really quickly, I'm inordinately proud of the fact that I managed to be one of the last two left standing, twice. In a row. The "in a row" is actually significant, as I also realized that when you get knocked out quick, you have a lot of time to catch your breath before going another round. You don't get this luxury if you're one of the last standing. There weren't many girls at practice, but I took some harder hits from veteran girls and stayed up. Yay for my yoga muscles, keeping me up!

I am sooooooper hungry.

Good thing I'm meeting my favorite S4 for some pizza.

Yeah, I took a yoga class yesterday for the first time in about 6 months and I'm feeling it today. I can't wait to get back into it--partially because the instructor is very good, he mixes it up and works mind and body fairly evenly--and partially because the instructor's name is Vlad, he's beautiful, and gives really amazing neck rubs at the end.
Is this Roller Derby? How did you get into that? Are there competions? Is it a team or solo sport and who do you play?

Yep, rollerderby. I'm a new recruit this year for the Minnesota Rollergirls (http://www.mnrollergirls.com). I got into it because I had a few friends and acquaintances who joined the league last year- I went to the bouts and had more fun watching them than I can ever remember having at a sporting event. It's a sport with a big punk rock bent, sassy girls, short skirts and lots of attitude. So, I decided to try out this year, and kind of surprised myself by making the cut. It's very much a team sport. Our league has four teams and so far we've only played against each other, though we're hosting our first out of town team in November. There are new leagues popping up all over the country.

"fitness yoga". I go to the Y, they don't get so much into the branches. I think it's modified hatha.

Cool. If you're ever looking for a good and inexpensive Hatha class, my teacher is awesome. And she's starting sessions again at the Meditation Center this September.
