So, I skated a marathon this morning.

It was tough.

I was not fast, but I finished, and I didn't stop. I didn't care about my time, so I didn't get a time-chip thing, but I think it was around three and a half hours.

Hooray for me.

Now, I can't decide which of these three things I want first, but I will have them all today:
a) shower
b) sleep
c) fried tofu and lots of vegetables and rice

that's cool. where does one DO a skating marathon? if it's in a rink, doesn't that get kind of boring, around and around? if on roads, how was the surface quality?

if you've already posted this info, sorry... i've been offline for a few days, recovering from too much travelling.

No, I haven't really posted anything about it. The last thing I posted was that I was considering it. I put off deciding if I was really going to do it until the last day of registration, actually.

It took place in downtown St. Paul, two loops of a long length of Shepard road, and the finish line was up Sibley in Mears Park. The surface quality varied- sometimes it was nice, smooth concrete, somtimes it was concrete with these fun ridges in it, and sometimes it was asphalt with tar snakes. Fun! To the surprise of all the die-hard, spandex clad inline speed skaters, we were all on our quad skates, which in a lot of ways are more hardcore than the inlines, because quad skates have more resistance, smaller wheels (so they're slower), and they're also more difficult on rough surfaces because there's so much more contact with the street. When we were in the ridged concrete sections, it was really vibratey and difficult- the first time we hit that section we were still in a big group and there was a collective "Arrrghhhhh!".

Glad you made it back home safe, and without fines or jail!
