- being underwater:
I've always liked being underwater for the sensation of being completely enveloped in another medium and the freedom of movement. It's probably the closest thing to zero gravity I'll ever get. I also enjoy the way being underwater makes you conscious of yourself, how it muffles the sounds the regular world, makes you hear your heartbeat in your head and makes you conscious that the breath you're holding in is what's keeping you alive. I have fond memories of sinking to the bottom of my grandmother's pool and looking up at the diffused sunlight and the wavy treetops through the 9 feet of water above me while bubbles rise to the surface from my nose. I'm also fascinated by the creatures that can only survive in the deepest parts of the ocean, their bioluminescence, and how they look so amazingly unearthly. - coffee:
It's black, it's bitter, it's got caffeine, and it's the best when you have sweet stuff to clash it with. Coffee and baklava together? Hell yeah. - dredlocks:
I've had mine for almost six years. Holy crap! I think they look cool. - goggles:
Functional and stylish, especially in the desert. - making music:
Nietzsche said "Without music, life would be an error."
I make music. The relationships between sound, emotion, and science are all really interesting to me. - peace:
I'm a hippie at heart, really. I do so wish we'd stop killing each other. - roller coasters:
WHeeeeeeeeee. I love heights and speed and being upside down. Coasters have all of that, and some cool physics to boot. - self-analysis:
I figure I should get to know myself pretty well, as long as we're stuck with each other. I often believe one of the main reasons we're all here is to gain some empathy, and knowing yourself gives you a starting point. It also helps with not repeating mistakes and becoming the kind of person you want to be. - sound design:
A lot like making music, but... different. An effective sound design, much like a lot of theatre tech, is usually the most effective when the average theatre or movie-goer doesn't notice it. So, good sound designers and good techs I think are unsung heroes of a larger whole. I also like working in collaborative teams, and working on one component of a bigger project lets me do that. - the neverending story (book):
Michael Ende is so good at modern myth. In my opinion, the neverending story is an amazingly deft collection of observations on growing up and the importance of imagination and play. The 80's movie doesn't nearly do the book justice.
