So S4 and I went down and visited the family-friend-with-used-car-lot and did some test driving.
First a white '95 Tercel that was underwhelming, and then, on basically a whim, an '88 honda accord. Seems rusty but trusty... reminds me, basically, of the car that azure and I shared in high school. A little crappy and older, but definitely zippy and worth what he'd charge us for it. And a manual transmission.(yay!) Our family has long loved Hondas, so test driving this one was kind of like coming home again.
The price is low enough that we could cough up the funds for it right away. We may have driven it home but for a dodgy gasket. That, he said, can be taken care of by his mechanic and we'll likely be able to pick it up on Tuesday. So, 95% sure we'll be a two car household again early next week.

*bounce*

Unfortunately, this means no road trip to visit Omaha...

Hondas are by far the best cars that I have ever owned-- a manual tranmission is great for them-- they are cheaper to fix that way. Good Luck!

your choice

You definitly have the right idea about hondas. They are very reliable and one of the best cars made, but definitely watch out for the older ones because some require a lot of maintenance. I have run into many problems with my honda *92 civic, from brakes to the alternator. They are not major problems but it does add up. Manual transmissions are great and because of gas today you save a lot. Good luck with your choice you cant go wrong with a honda!
