So that show that I was all excited to play for the electronic music festival?

Weeellll, due to crappy automated bulk mailings and the very slight difference between the words "programming" and "performance", it seems as though a track of mine was accepted to be played by a DJ on a cd at a club, and not that I was accepted to play a live set.

I'd have been fine with that if I hadn't gotten all excited to play live already.

Now I'm just disappointed.

confusion? Perhaps about a DJ mix? If so, that email was meant to
say that *in addition* to your performance that the DJ would like to
mix in audio from your submission CD.

awww.. suck! i mean, it's cool and all, but i understand about the getting excited thing. at least you have a show coming up soon! and you'll have to find other places to play. you just will.

Yeah... I'm still hoping they might be wrong, the whole process seems a little weird. I *did* get a "you were accepted" thing, not a "You weren't accepted for the category you applied in but would you like to do this other thing?"

Dunno. It wouldn't be the first time I've gotten a rejection by mistake, but I don't think I've ever gotten an acceptance by mistake. Lame!

I'm trying to find other places to play, but I'm feeling pretty discouraged. No one I've asked about other shows has even bothered to get back to me, not even with a "No.", which is worse than hearing nothing. And not that I don't love my friends and everything, but I was really excited to feel validated by playing for something that I'm not involved in curating myself.

i don't think you should get too discouraged by people not getting back to you. because think of us doing things and the reasons why we might flake out. or if you don't flake out think of me flaking out.

because maybe other people curating shows might not be very organized or maybe they're doing the whole nepotism thing and are forgetting that you talked to them. i think if someone doesn't give you a no then that is not a no so you should ask them again and get a clear answer.

really i think that if you have only talked to someone once and they don't get back to you then you should talk to them again.
