So... I just realized that the week or so I'd like to be gone to go to NC and SF is the week before my boss is due to have her baby- and it'd be pretty lame for me to not be here then.

But, our office is so lax and cool about stuff.

Do I still ask for the few days off and see what she says, or is that just dumb and inconsiderate?

I know that I am not the expert on these things and that not even the real experts can predict such things, but a huge number of women having their first baby go into labor AFTER their actual due date. (8 days in my case, but her hubby doesn't have a huge head either.)
On the non-medical front though she is a sensible person and would probably be honest about what she needs you to do.
