Glad to be home.

Driving back to St. Paul around midnight from Minneapolis tonight, I found myself suddenly in stop and go traffic. Moving up, I saw what might have been a father and son taking video footage of all the lights ahead from a pedestrian overpass. When I'd finally inched up to see what it all was, I felt sick to my stomach. A sedan that had been heading westbound on 94 was upside down, and a huge semi truck was tipped over. Its cab was crunched into the barrier and spilling over to the eastbound side. There were at least two medical crews, several tow trucks, squads and troopers. Flares cordoned off all but one lane on the eastbound side.

It's at once humbling and unsettling to be reminded of our frailty.

This week, I:

- Finished all the dishes. ALL DISHES ARE CLEAN!
- Gave C. Low Orbit and some solo stuff to listen to on his way to teach workshops in Wisconsin. His job is helping people succeed doing their creative thing. Maybe he can help me!
- Made a present for r0ckc4ndy.
- Signed up for a 6-week yoga class. I am burning through my New Years resoultions. Woohoo.
- Practiced clarinet. More than once, for pretty sizable chunks of time. Go, me. I'm getting to the point that I really want some beginning etude books or something. I'm not sure where my saxophone books are, those might work, though the ranges and problem areas are different.
- Ate yummy Thai food paid for by work. Yay.

My Job is Cool, Part IV

So, we're in the process of getting a new Executive Director at work. To that end, our board has decided that the staff as a group gets to meet each finalist for lunch, so we can get to know them and have our opinion weigh in about who our new boss will be. (Quite nice of them, really.) These lunches will be staff only - not even our current interim ED will be in attendance. We also get to pick the food. So... an impromptu brainstorming session erupted last week about what we could choose to have for lunch that might best screw with the minds of our candidates.

Some of the "best" suggestions, courtesy of my coworkers:

- Big bowl of random pills. (family style!)
- The All Candy Lunch
- Colt 45 (40 oz.)
- Kaboom! cereal and Red Bull

Yep. Like my job.
