Love takes off masks that we fear we cannot live without and know we cannot live within. I use the word 'love' here not merely in the personal sense but as a state of being, or a state of grace -- not the infantile American sense of being made happy but in the tough and universal sense of quest and daring and growth.
James Baldwin.
Been keeping busy.
Yesterday was a very good day. The weather was beautiful, work felt short- largely because S4 helped me take a long lunch break during which we sat outside by the koi pond at the Day By Day Cafe, nearly finished a crossword, and shared a malt. It was quite divine. I got emails that make my heart lighter, and I went rollerskating outside with several rollergirls, including the lovely and elusive
irisjack, and also the lovely
alisgray. (Who is not a rollergirl. Yet.) I rode my motorcycle around (with my skates strapped to the back) and it was a spectacular evening for that. And then I drank beer and ate pizza and watched Carnivale and went to sleep.
The day was darkened only by the fact that Party Top, Springboard's oldest fishy, has crossed over the great divide.
His last rites were done in the bathroom down the hall. He is survived by recent protege, After-Party.
