Tonight I was blessed with a spare ticket to the sold-out Imogen Heap show at First Ave. My pal from music school B's girlfriend had to work late, and when he searched through his phone to think of someone who'd appreciate the show, I came up. Yay! It was cool to hang out with him.
Kid Beyond opened, and he's a favorite, so it was cool that he beatboxed along with a fair number of her songs as well as doing his own set. It was a good show. As it was, she was thoroughly enchanting, but if the singer songwritery focus of hers was supplated with more of the electronic side of what she does, she'd be even more my new hero. She wore a corsety thing and this big pink crinolin skirt that made me think of R0ckc4ndy, especially when she twirled around, to a great uproar in the crowd. I didn't know that spinning in crinolins was such a crowd pleaser, but there you go. Also, someone who makes me consider a key-tar a perfectly reasonable thing to use in performance *has* to be doing something right.
