I'm in a good mood today.
Because of the rescheduled other meeting, I was able to go to the Rockits meeting last night. It was so nice to see all my ladies again. And our newest teammate was there, our convert from the Dollies! My team says I should train up over the summer to jam. Eeeee, that's scary. But it's really cool that they think I could do it. We have a lot of kick ass blockers and pivots, but we have something of a jammer shortage. It will be fun to try, anyway, see how the skillset is different and how it can inform blocking, too. I think I can develop a good jammer-brain and I have a few strenghts physically for it that I can build on, but I'll need a lot of work on stability and the kind of endurance that jamming takes. Jammer-brain shares a lot of strange similarities to riding a motorcycle to me- looking through turns, choosing lines, thinking of/looking where you *want* to be instead of where you don't want to be. We are planning training days at the oval, which is awesome because the oval is probably my favorite place to skate- it's smooth, it's big, it's outside, it's usually not terribly busy, it's cheaper than the rink, and it's closer to where I live. I am feeling like I've gotten out of shape in the last month, not skating much and not doing yoga. And while going to the roller garden is good just to be on wheels and stuff, it's very different from *training*, especially after all of the really crazy off-skates conditioning we did. We watched some footage of the championship bout, which I hadn't seen before. It was really apparent how much our hard work with our small team paid off.
Got a hold of the girl who currently lives in the unit we're moving into last night. She seems really cool- a theatre tech and a magician. She remembered us from the open house and was happy that we got it. Gah, so many little details. Do we want to buy the extras she bought, like the pulley thing for the skylight? The steps up to and the railing surrounding the loft? The blinds for the windows into the atrium? It sounds like this place is going to have CRAZY amounts of natural light, yow. She called the sun coming through the skylight the "death ray." I also didn't think about the fact that we'll probably have to buy our own range and refridgerator. Eek. After the down payment and the closing costs and all that stuff, we don't really have a lot of money for a range and a refridgerator. Or if we did have extra cash, we wanted to get some different furniture, and we need to get a wardrobe as we have no closets. Blah. Well, we'll figure it out. Buying major home appliances is almost more boring and grown-up sounding than getting a loan.
She can't move out until the first, so we can't really move in until the 2nd. Good to know. Currently we're supposed to be out of our place on the first. As no one has bought our unit and moving in, so far as we know, I hope it isn't any big deal to stay past when we said we be out by a day or two. I hope. We're gonna find out for sure today. And then we're gonna go look at the place again and see which of the weird little features we'll buy, and bring over a new check and paperwork to replace the lost stuff, and sign the Occupancy Agreement, and hopefully figure out the best time to get the loan officer in there to do a walk-through. I dunno when we close yet. So much herding kittens!
So... if everything goes the way we hope it will, it looks like we're moving the weekend of June 2nd.
