Unexpected

Huh. Last I checked, it was 6:00.

I finished the other track I was working on. It lived up to its name twice over, as I really didn't expect to get it done already, and I also didn't really expect it to become what it became. Fucked up kind of a lot of stuff, but rather than being frustrating, it mostly just made me figure out software better. So.. took longer, but was ultimately better in terms of brainstuff. I have to say, editing on the lappy on the couch once I have everything in there really kicks ass over being tied to a desktop computer in the studio. A lot.

I've been staring at a screen for a long time and now that I'm done working and all restless, it's time to try to sleep. Damn.

Maybe next time I'll try something not in C minor, or something other than 120 bpm. I'm wild and crazy like that.

I just downloaded your last track last night. I'll have to grab this one too and give'em a listen at the same time. I listened to the other one, but yaknow, work speakers, so I couldn't really give it adequate consideration to comment.

I'm trying to get out of the G/136bpm rut, myself.

I totally know what you mean about editing not at a desktop 'puter. My little hardware multitracker box sits very nicely on the lamp-table next to the comfy chair. Form-factors that move with you are much better than those centrally tied.

I like it.

Having it at 120bpm without a driving bass kick gives it an easy to follow movement without seeming rushed. Like floating down a river rather than riding a train, if you get my analogy.

I know next to nothing about different keys, so I don't think I can comment anything other than to say that I like it, and I think it fits well for this piece.

Yeah, there's a reason that 120 is the "default" bpm. But then it rubs up against that musician want to not use presets. KNOB! MUST TWIST KNOB! CAN THAT PARAMETER BE ADJUSTED? PUSH BUTTON! SEE WHAT HAPPENS! :) C minor has been my default key for a very long time. It likely has a lot to do with being closely related to E flat, which is the concert pitch for the sax I play.

I should have mentioned this to you yesterday. I really like this. I, for one, happen to adore C minor, and believe that composers should have a C minor quota to fill, though I'm also more than happy to have some A minor goin' on, too.

But earnestly, this is beautiful, and I've come to expect nothing less from you. You know what you're doing when you blend your instrument types- the slow, organic sound of the woodwinds and the desperate, driven sound of the digital instruments. If I wanted anything from it, I'd want a little more variation from the clarinet.

I'll take it as a compliment. :) I think I'm over my c-minor quota, though. BUT...
[music geek] c minor is parallel to c major, which is relative to a minor, and I loves me some modal mixture/picardy 3rd action anyway- (the beginning and end already have this goin' on.) Plus, A in Cmajor is the sixth, which would be all about deceptive resolutions, of which I'm also a big fan. So really I could have put some a minor action there as well for you if I'd known ahead of time. ;) Maybe for your play.[/music geek]
