Shop called.
Our little rust bucket is probably a goner: to fix everything on it that needs fixing would cost twice what we bought it for. We could get it limping along for a couple hundred, but that would mean limping into a minnesota winter and only delaying the inevitable- plus the things that are wrong could be really dangerous if they broke on the highway again. I'm leaning towards junking it but wanna talk to S4 first before I tell the shop what they ought do with it. I'm not horribly upset- we definitely got out of it what we put into it, but still- dang.

...anyone selling a car?

I have some friends that, as of a few weeks ago, were planning to sell an older, but good condition, Honda. I think it's a Civic, but it could be an Accord. I can check and see what they were planning on asking for it.

That would be awesome! (This one's a Honda as well, I'm a big fan of accords and civics.)
Let me know! I should be online, but you can always give me a call, too- 6125996652

Just heard back from her and they sold it about a week ago. :( If I hear of anyone else selling a car, I'll let you know. If you decide to go the dealership route, Keewaydin Auto is a really nice, small, ma and pa used dealership in Minnesota. They're really upfront about their prices and were super nice to deal with both times I've been in the market for a used car dealership (even though the first time I ended up buying a car elsewhere).

That should have been Minneapolis, not Minnesota.

what year/make is the current car, what's wrong with it, and how much did you pay for it?

Current car is an '88? Honda Accord. On the freeeway the tie rod and ball joint of the right rear wheel got fux0red. At the time, we also knew it had a leaky radiator that we'd wanted to get looked at. Turns out yes, not only is the radiator leaking, but the water pump as well, so they'd both need work, or to be replaced. The dangerous part is that the front ball joints and tie-rods are in a similar state as the one that went screwy in the back - read: could go any time. And having what happened in the rear is way scarier in the front 'cause that's where the steering is.

We paid $800 for the car last year. To fix everything, they want ~$1500. I do really trust this shop- they've always done right by my family, specialize in older cars and do stuff like find used parts and tell you "this needs to be fixed now, this needs to be fixed soon, this you can let go for a while" etc.

Hello! squeeksqueek. I second danger's suggestion. There are lots of places for rodents to hide cheese in a Wrangler.

Okay...

GOODbye!
