I am inspired by R0ckc4ndy.
Instead of staying frustrated at software that doesn't seem to easily do what I want, I'm going to make some cocoa and get S4 to watch some more Alias with me. Even though season 4 is still pretty suck-tastic.
Today I miss Sound Forge a lot. My main sound program now is Live, which is really great for my solo performancey stuff, but it really doesn't quite deliver when I just want a straight up, non-sucky destructive wav editor, and it's really not made to do film scoring. (Though version 6 has video support! Exciting, but not really helpful Right Now.) And the program I'm using to synch it all to the video doesn't much like to have a lot of audio in there. At all. Which isn't really its fault as much as it's the fault of lack of RAM. And that sucks, 'cause I like to have eight kabillion tracks going on, and it's getting unhappy with...like... four.
Also? If you had anything to do with the creation of Audacity, anywhere out there, I want you to know that free is too expensive for that program.
But, I am learning things. One of them, again, is that having the default amount of RAM is a pretty severe detriment to computer performance. Also? That having protools would probably be pretty cool, and more useful than this odd smorgasboard of things I'm using now. Also, that scoring takes me longer than I thought it would, especially with the whole software kludge+workaround thing I have going on. It might be a lot faster for me to fire up my old PC just to have the programs I worked in a lot when I was doing a lot of stuff for theatre. But, then I'm not only mixing programs, I'm mixing platforms. I'm not sure that's a great idea. I don't have any really convenient way to haul data back and forth between the two, plus I do so love editing from my couch.
Blah.
We'll get there.
Hmmm... I hope I HAVE cocoa, now that I'm all worked up for some...

Date: 2006-09-20 05:26 am (UTC)How come you're not running Sound Forge anymore? Mac vs. PC?
(I just purchased Vegas 7 + DVD 2.0, and I haven't even played with 'em yet. Just got the boxes this afternoon. Also Cinescore.)

P.S. Soundtrack is new to me too. I dunno how I feel about it. I've used Digital Performer for so long that I kind of prefer it. Too bad it doesn't agree with Final Cut the way Soundtrack does.
