I've just spent the last few hours cleaning up my hard drives and organizing my desktop and (mainly) my music folders. Yow. Not done yet, but things look a little different, and some sequence files are rather confused about where things are. This is where most my rationale lies in not cleaning house earlier. I'm glad most sequencing programs are offering bundled files as an option- for anyone with messy filekeeping it's something of a godsend, despite the space they require, especially for umptybillion files with names like "Sound3_track1" or whatever. Or even when I try to be good and name them myself, they get things like "weird1" or "prophet06".
Unearthed some cool stuff, probably most notably a whole slag of residents mp3's, with some coil and Faithless and others for good measure. Neat.

Lacking a proper handle, name your bizarre audio recordings with the date they were originally conceived; and if there were other contributors, include their names, too. That way you might be able to look at a file name and deduce what the content is ("Feb_15_03? Oh, yeah, that was the day after vDay and now I remember what that is.").

heh, actually I had a system of putting everything I'd do in folders by the month/year, though now it's long enough since the advent of that system that I don't remember what I was working on in January of 2002 from what I happened to work on in May of 2002, etc. The fact that my whole backup hard drive got formatted and recovered a year and a half ago or so leaving me with several gigs of truncated filenames (thanks a heap, civitas) doesn't help much either. And I have lots of stuff from Nebraska Nick, who has things like Celtic harp recordings in with files from old Zurround songs and he's much worse about labeling than I am...
