gaaaaah.
Tonight I decided I should get a move on making my new derby uniform so that I have it ready before we play. My Master Plan for the roller derby is that I'm trading in my 60's-era Star Trek-esque A-line go-go dress for a shirt and little shorts. Little shorts! I tend to not like wearing skirts and dresses all that much but I still want to have something fun and leggy. My favorite Garda (shh, yes, I had one), Honey Hollow, would be proud of me- she told me once that my gams were a gift from God and it was a shame that i was, in essence, hiding them under a barrel. I miss her, darnitall for grad school, anyway!
So, anyway, I'm having shorts difficulty. I've made three test pair from three different patterns, and none of them have come out quite right. One is too big, one is too small, one is too weird-fitting. I need some Goldilocks action, here. I think I need to get some better test fabric, as the stuff I'm using isn't enough like what I'll be making the real ones out of. Granted, I'm picky, since I'm going to be wearing the finished ones in front of a bunch of people and they have to stand up to a lot of abuse, plus I only get one shot at making them because we can't get any more of the fabric I'm using (aaah, pressure!) but still. Also, I'll have you know that topstitching one super shiny crazy stretchy material precisely on top of another even shinier crazier stretchier fabric, is, I think, a prime component of a ring of Hell somewhere.
In non-shorts related news, S4 and I are now done with Veronica Mars season 1. Who wants to lend us season 2?? It's sad, but I'm dying to know who's at the door. I'm guessing it's a fakeout and it's just going to be Wallace or her Dad or something.

sigh, i shamelessly love that tv show like a preteen loves all the stars of tiger beat. i'm making tv-show moonie eyes right now!

I'm not much of a clothing construction person (tho', I'm pretty good at ghetto alterations), but I seem to remember that with stretchy fabrics, there are directions which the stretch goes, and that matters when making something from them.
