Boring

One of my new years resolutions was to take care of a bunch of boring grown up stuff that needs to be taken care of. Largely this involves personal finances, but some other stuff as well.

S4 and I applied for a joint checking account but our application was apparently lost in the mail, so now I have to call the dude and do it over the phone. Somewhere, I'm assuming on someone's desk at our would-be credit union, there's a sheet of paper with all of our sensitive identity and banking information unaccounted for. Awesome! Makes me really excited to call them up and set up an account there, even though there's a chance it's the post office and not them. Blah.

S4 paid the ticket that we got for expired tabs and got the new tabs. Woo. Weird thing- we also got new tabs for the spacecar, and they sent us new plates. Spacecar's current tabs are good until December of '07 and the new tabs on the new plates are good until February of '08. What's up with that? Do I need to change the plates right away, or can I wait until December? Can I at least wait until spring, or is this something that needs to be changed Right Now? It seems odd. Why new plates?

We're now on a payment plan for our lame-o energy bill, and I called and the autopay is finally working for the DSL bill. Woo.

I finished my taxes, and get good chunk of refund. Hooray for the student loan interest credit!

I transferred myself and my old X-rays to a new dentist in St. Paul, and had my first appointment in about 2 years today. All things considered, my teeth are lookin' pretty good. I celebrated my clean bill of dental health with a fountain Coke at lunch.

After the dentist appointment I figured I was on a gettin'-stuff-done roll, so I dropped spacecar off for its long overdue oil change. When I picked it up it came with a litany of recommended other things to spend money on that total 3/4ths of the purchase price of the car. And the oil light still does that thing. I was hoping that would go away, at least. Hrm.

So- stuff still to do:
Open checking account, at this place or somewhere else.
Roll over ittybitty old 401k into a Roth.
Make doctors appointment
Figure out what else should happen with spacecar
Renew roadside assistance membership (while I guess I wish I could say this didn't faithfully pay for itself time and time again, dang, it's nice to have.)
Make computer backup

Also, I want to get rid of the bags of books and clothes that are going to goodwill that are languishing in the back of the car and getting in my way whenever I have a gig.

Also, I am in sore need of another bleach and dye.

I also did a load of laundry before work today. I am a Good Citizen. Or Something.

The oil light thing might just be something they didn't reset after they changed the oil. What with the computeration of cars nowadays, it's probably a lot of techie junk for mechanic-type-dudes to remember.

And good for you doing the grownup stuffs! I'm doing a lot of that right now, meself. It's kind of boring and a pain, but feels good when it's done.

Yeah, maybe. Spacecar, while it has a clean title now, was a salvage, so it's a little funky and was kludged together with mismatched parts, bondoed and spraypainted silver (hence the name!) The funkiest thing is the heater/blower thing, which is a straight up toggle switch on the dash wired straight to the battery. I find toggle switches kind of endearing, but that alone could be enough to trigger the check engine light, I'd guess. It works and drives fine, and even with the weirdo toggle switch the heat *works*, so I don't care so much- I just wish I didn't vaguely worry about breaking down whenever I take it someplace. Which isn't very often since we have the *other* metro, but still. I don't want to be stranded for any length of time, especially considering the weather we've had recently.

But yeah, one day I'll have all my shit together. Ha ha ha.

I also remembered that we should make a video of all of our stuff for insurance purposes. Wooo!!
