I've decided I want some speaker stands, and in case anyone has any opinions about them, I'm soliciting.

I mainly want them for my near-fields in my home studio (I have Yamaha NS-10s, specifically), to free up workspace and finally have my speakers at the same height. (woo!) So, they don't need to be anything crazy, but if I'm going to spend some money on them, I'm not against putting a couple more bucks to have something that'd stand up to a mid-sized PA setup in case it'd be handy to have for or a smaller performance space or party or something along those lines.

I don't really want tripods, they fold up nice but I think the footprint would be larger than ideal for home. I'm thinking of something like these:

Any thoughts, O audiophiles? Does the platform come off to have just a pole-mount if'n you wanted? I can't tell.

I have some giant pole-mount tripods, and I'd tend to agree: they're well built but take way too much space for a home studio. Plus they're too tall for mixing; they're pretty much only usable as a PA.

That said, if you or anyone else wants a cheap PA (speakers/stands/amp), I'd sell.

Huh. I might, actually. What do you have?

Speakers: (2) Community CSX35-S2 (specs)
Power Amp: (1) Crest VS900 (specs)
+ big aluminum pole-mount stands, that look like this
+ (2) heavy round speaker cables, maybe 15-20 feet long.

I bought all this stuff used in July 2003. The speakers are pretty cheap, not as good sounding as nice mixing speakers but they go very loud. They're probably only worth $100. I've seen the same ones used in small clubs. The amp is probably a lot nicer than what you'd need to drive those speakers. It's worth closer to $200. The stands/cables I'm not sure of the value, but they're not worth much to me without the other stuff, so I'd probably throw them in for next to nothing.

I think having something like this at my disposal would be worthwhile to me. Plus, I have a tax return to squander! Wanna email me? beetle at waste dot org.

had some tripods for some pa speakers in my bedroom at the cracktory...
defintaly ate up WAY to much space!

i have some similar to those...
i love that you can route the cables through them
(as cables of all kinds are my swarn enemy)
the height adjust is also very nice so you can tweek the placement.

but if space is your bigest worry, why not get a walmount set?

Heh. The way my studio is setup wall mount wouldn't be ideal since it sticks out into the middle of an open room. And it'd be nice to have the option to use them somewhere else if it'd be useful.
