The internets make it far too easy to spendy spendy, and then rationalize because it was "a really good deal!"
But really, it was! My rationalizing was helped along by the fact that I got a small honorarium for serving on the grant panel. See? Justified!

Anyway, I finally have an audio interface. Like, a real one, so I can record multiple channels into my shiny laptop at once, and not rely on Apple's it's-just-fine-but-not-really-if-you-bought-your-computer-primarily-to-record-music minijack i/o. I feel so grown up. So, now, in theory, I'll be able to put down sketches of stuff into higher quality, multiple, editable tracks all at once, which is really exciting and hope it will let me work faster once I get it all configured the way I want. I also have a grand scheme of taking my analog mixer totally out of the scene, which would make my setup a lot more compact, but I think there are a few oddities that might prevent that from happening... I'm not sure yet, though.

Oh, how I wish I didn't get so easily confuzzled by basic signal flow.

I'm going to be curious as to how this works for you as I'll be upgrading in the future, I'm thinking of the Motu Traveler so far.

I looked at the traveller (or the ultralite), too, MOTU makes nice stuff. It'da been nice to have the dedicated mixing software if I follow through on taking my hardware mixer out of my setup, but I really have no need for that many channels or the ADAT/lightpipe interface.

The reason this one won out for me is 'cause of its simple design and the lower pricetag. We'll see how it pans out! :)
