Infected Mushroom

Went out to the Foundation to see Infected Mushroom last night. It was a good show- packed and full of energy. I wish that I'd been able to see more of what was happening on stage- the space for the crowd and the sightlines there are kind of strange, so the visibility was not great. They seemed to be playing a lot of what they were doing live, so it was frustrating for a geek like me to not really get to see what was going on. The floor was packed, which was cool, but it also meant there wasn't really room to dance, which is what I really like to do to hard trance. The bouncers also forbid the use of poi, which was probably a good move as there wasn't space for them anyway. I'd never seen a show at Foundation and as a venue it's pretty cool, but I'd enjoy it more for smaller shows, I think.
Derby continues its impact on the rest of my existence:
So, before I started derby, going out dancing/spinning poi was probably my primary physical outlet, and since starting derby I do that a lot less than I used to. I am used to going to a rave or to a dancey club night and getting that nice, worn-out, physical release from dancing a lot. At the most, I'd go out dancing maybe two nights a week, but usually less. And I'll dance a lot less if it's slower music or more gothy or whatever. Because of derby, I'm in better shape now than I used to be, so it tends to take more for me to get the same release from dancing. That combined with a lack of space last night left me kinda unfulfilled that way, which is kinda funny. I also hadn't been to a crowded, dancey show in a really long time, so I'm not used to being in a tight crowd on a dancefloor.
So now when I have sweaty people bumping up against me in a tight pack, my developing derby reptile brain wants to start throwing shoulder checks, which isn't really acceptable dancefloor behavior, at least for most techno. I also haven't been in a proper mosh pit for an even longer amount of time- probably since I was in high school or thereabouts- but this made me imagine I may have more fun in one now that I'm more conditioned both mentally and physically than I used to be for knocking people around and getting myself knocked around. Maybe Ministry will come through town again one of these days...

Date: 2007-05-21 01:51 pm (UTC)yet, despite your reminder, my saturday night ended up being consumed by a snarling 19-headed beast that goes by the name of 'a 12-hour overnight work shift' and i couldn't make it but you should totally tell me when cool things are happening in the future. in light of my recent single-ness, i now 1). have a bunch of social time to fill, and 2). need to find as many reasons as humanly possible to get out of the house.
