new air conditioner is smaller and lots easier to put into the window, and is currently kicking ass on our crazy 5th floor humidity.
bad!
_____
new air conditioners cost moneys (though this is offset a bit by the fact that it is a nifty energy-efficient model.)
The tips of my pinkies got stuck between the unit and the sheet-metal casing when I tried to move it. S4 tried to help but moved it in such a way that they got stuck tighter (not his fault, I got stuck in a weird way), and that just made me panic more. I ended up yanking them out before they got stuck even tighter. So, the tips of my pinkies are swollen and purple and I thought the nail on the one that got stuck the worst might be dead, but now I think it will be okay. The prospect of the tip of a finger getting smushed past usability or totally severed seemed completely viable and even probable for a moment there, and while it was only stuck probably less than 30 seconds, that seems like a really really really fucking long time when there's at least 100 pounds of air conditioner on a very small part of finger. I had a nice sobbing fit once I finally extricated myself; it didn't really hurt yet but it was just a crazy stress response.
Anyway, I'm doing much better now. I like the new air conditioner not only because it is kicking ass on our crazy 5th floor humidity but also because it hasn't tried to maim me yet. Non-maiming is a good quality in a home appliance.
Uh. If anyone is needing one, we have an unwieldy but functional 13,000 BTU air conditioner. $50 or best offer.
Works best if you don't happen to have a structural turnbuckle/tie rod placed really inconveniently right in front of your only windows.
You know, hypothetically.
