Computer is back and functional. Celina is awesome!
I spent most of my weekend in burning prep, and blowing off fringe shows, a wedding, and roller derby events.
I have assembled my tricycle. It is very cute and I am excited to run around on it. I am worried about it fitting onto a standard bike rack despite claims on their website that such a thing is possible.
My hair is freshly shaven. Yay! Still need to bleach and tie and dye. Which is different than tie-dye.
Cheerleading skirt is finished. It's so short it barely qualifies as a skirt, but these things don't matter so much there. Still need to make shirt. It'd also be nice to find matching socks.
Had cheerleading practice. More soon.
I can burn and print cds now that my computer is back and my cheap(er) aftermarket toner came in the mail today. I even made my cd design and chose my tracks, but the levels could stand some tweaking.
I've soldered together strings of LEDs to decorate my tricycle, and affixed two of three. It turns out that the LEDs I bought, while they look yellow and orange, are, in fact, all just yellowy orange and are not different colors at all. Dang. I've devised nifty battery holders for the rear wheels, but don't have anything clever for the front, yet. This year, my lights have switches. (This is really, really exciting.) I think I will steal the blinky red ones from the old bike and put them on my basket. But not before I put a switch on them!
Our personal tube of glow bracelets also came in the mail today. I really like getting things in the mail.
I created a steampunk outfit. I'm hoping it's cute enough to warrant a ride on the Neverwas Haul.
I welded together a goofy little star for the tree. I'm glad I have a little something to contribute to the tree. It's really an amazing piece of art.
We need to test pack the car. We need to locate the rebar. I need to figure out what I'm going to do without my keyboard, and then practice whatever set I come up with. We need to borrow or buy a bike rack.
I'm sure we need to do some other things, too.
I'm looking forward to the art. I'm looking forward to a creative kick in the pants. I'm looking forward to camping a little differently this year. I'm looking forward to the drive out.
I've decided I want to learn more about incorporating interactivity into electronic music and art. This would probably mean learning to use the software from Cycling 74. So I emailed the head of the electronic music studio at the U to see what options are (if any) to register for or audit some higher level electronic music classes. I think this would be a Good Thing. I'm not ready for the emotional, financial, or time commitment to graduate school for real, but I'd really like to take a class or two both to keep my brain busy and thinking about new stuff (when I was a student, the most cutting edge synth in the lab was a Yamaha DX7) and also to connect some with the community of folks from the Spark festival during the rest of the year. We'll see if this goes anywhere. Since I did not make the IL team, I've felt fine ignoring skating for the sake of art projects lately, but I might have to reexamine things once I'm back from the desert. I can have trouble finding the balance between derby and job and social life and artwork.
Can't someone just make 12 more hours in a day?

Date: 2007-08-14 03:14 pm (UTC)We enjoy the fact that the rebar we use to make camp at one of the largest counterculture events in the world was re-purposed from the stash intended for Michele Bachmann campaign signs.
