Ah. They only considered cities over 250,000. That's why it doesn't jive with experience for me.
It'd be interesting to look at regions or smaller towns and see how they fair per capita against the larger and each other. I suspect our little slice of paradise would be right up there if pitted against other towns our size, at least on the library and internet front (bookstores, not so good).
Atlanta? I never would've guessed they'd make the list. Hell, I think I would've picked Huston over Atlanta.
Oh, it is totally a hip town, I actually really like it (we live 6 hours a way and have visited it several times) and have considered moving there. So I wasn't meaning to dis Atlanta (or "HOTlanta" as we affectionately call it). Its just kinda short on public amenities to my eye, like large libraries and public internet access (a couple of years ago we had to resort to Kinkos downtown for internet access). And I can only remember one bookstore, which was nice, but I'd have thought to see more. So it doesn't strike me as "bookish" territory. Which is why I was surprised to see it on the list. Totally cool town though.
And Athens is only a couple of hours away, and that college town rules as well.

Date: 2008-01-10 03:21 pm (UTC)Anyways, Atlanta is supposed to be a pretty hip town in the middle of awful. Kinda like Austin. So, I'm not terribly surprised that it's up there.
P.S.: Go Minneapolis! Woo!
