Yay, geeky date day!

My afternoon meeting got postponed tomorrow, and S4 has a random 4-day weekend from working a bunch of overtime. So I'm taking the day off and we're going to go to the Bakken. We've been meaning to go for years. The timing is especially good, as we just watched the documentary Theremin: An Electronic Odyssey about Leon Theremin and his life and the history of the instrument last night. The Bakken owns one of the original RCAs. The documentary, incidentally, is worth watching- lots of time given interviewing Theremin himself as well as Clara Rockmore, Robert Moog, Paul Shure (he played the theremin for the score of The Day The Earth Stood Still), Brian Wilson, and others.

Anyway, I'm excited!

Back to work. It's busy, in a good way, lots of interesting calls this morning.

The Bakken's theremin is awesome. Be sure to hit 'go' on the little video next to it, if you've never seen someone who's really good play it.

The documentary has a lot of footage of Clara Rockmore and Theremin himself playing. It's pretty fascinating, watching the minute gestures required.

Eric and I went to the Bakken last spring. It was pretty awesome.

I love that documentary not just for the awesomeness of Leon Theremin, but also for how cool and awesome all of the interviews are, with the notable exception of Brian Wilson who manages to pull his thumb out of his asshole for one sentence and then relapses into utter non sequitars. Freakin fabulous.

Awesome geek date! Gotta love the Bakken. Hrm. I might steal your geek date idea in the near future...
