This afternoon, I soldered the first thing I've ever soldered. This evening, I've decided that circuit bending is lots of fun, and sesame street children's toys are a lot better this way.

Well done! I soldered an XLR -> 1/4" transformer back together yesterday so, in essence, I did the opposite kind of work (I fixed something that didn't work; you fixed something that did work). Isn't soldering fun?
What did you manage to get it to do? Does it fulfill your expectations?
It makes lots of neato messed up noise. I'm not done yet, but newbie ignorance just killed my soldering iron, so it may have to wait until I fix it or get another one. Darnit! At least they're pretty cheap. And hotmail hasn't worked since the first month I got a livejournal or so. Does it actually not bounce back? 'Cause I haven't known my password or cared to figure it out for over a year. You know my real address, don't you?
Killed your soldering iron? Oh no! I've had the same iron since I was, oh, 13 and I've done some pretty terrible things to it. (Perhaps if you had another iron you could repair the first? The tips can be replaced if you just gunked it up - but if it's not getting hot than you might need to just buy a new one. Logan has a butane soldering iron that I've seen him use. It's wild.)
I bought a Speak&Spell at a Goodwill a couple of months back with the intention of doing some circuit bending, but've been having far too much fun with it as it is than I'd expected, and so, haven't had the heart to mar it.
You could get a smaller, more expendable toy to see how ya like it. That's where Elmo (http://www.epinions.com/kifm-review-4FAE-161917-3A1B4CF1-prod1) comes in, before I take power tools to that Casio you sent me. :) I'll have to call it the Omaha 2000, or the Felixinator, or something like that.
