Did it.

Bit the bullet and told Mom about the bike.

She's not happy about it, and "questions my common sense", but there it is.
Took it out for the first practice around a parking lot for a good 45 min.

Hee.

Abi's mom still does not know about mine.

Congrats on telling her about the bike. Doesn't sound, from a distance, like the backlash was all that bad.

Well; she's still in the will I presume.

It hadn't occurred to me to ask before: but does dad know about the bike, spacefrog?

I haven't told him, but Mom may have by now. He'd probably be more okay with it than her, not sure. But because my Dad's done so many questionable things himself, I kind of feel like any judgement from him will effect me a lot less, for or against. Kinda weird that way.

i keep forgetting to congratulate you on all of this motorcycle stuff.
Three cheers!
My proud biker heritage and i salute you.

(p.s. what kind of bike is it, anyway? you may have mentioned, but i forgot...)

Heehee. Thanks. It's a 1982 Yamaha XJ650 Maxim. It's a on the big end of what I wanted for a first bike (I'd wanted a 4 or 500), but it's still a reasonable size for a starter, and everyone that I know that rides says I'll get used to it soon enough. This one (http://home.hccnet.nl/marga.dam.wim.meijer/marga.htm)belongs to a girl in Germany, but mine is basically identical. (I took the seat thingy off the back.)

Actually, she's in the Netherlands. Which is ironic, since that's where the previous owner of mine is, too...
