I did volunteer sound work for this indie film two years ago. One of the cool parts of working on the movie was getting to meet/hang out with Matt Wilson of Trip Shakespeare and two other guys who formed Semisonic. (Even if you're not hot on their music, they're nice guys, the lot of 'em.) After we wrapped a particularly long shoot at the Turf Club, Matt played a concert, mostly a bunch of old TS songs. While I knew of the band then, I hadn't heard much of what they'd done. He played a really great solo performance of one song that I really liked, and I've gotten it stuck in my head every now and again over the last couple years. As I hadn't heard it before, I never remember the name, just the melody and a few of the words.
So, after having this Trip Shakepeare song in my head for a while this morning, I decided that I needed to know what the name of it was, and I really want to find a copy of it. I tracked down lyrics for it, and found out that it's called "If You Miss Me".

I think I might want to cover it.
I might just go to cheapo and see if they have the album, I guess I wouldn't mind having it.

Though I'd guess Pied Piper has it, and that he might be willing to lend it to me, even though I'm a slacker and haven't helped him move today.

Update- I decided to post the lyrics, even though (to me) they don't really do much for me without the music:

When you lie down
In your bed tonight
Oh and I'm far from sight
If you miss me
And you want to cry
Oh I would want to die
When you wake up
And it's still not light
So far from my sight
If you miss me and you want to cry
Oh I would want to die
And rise into the blue above the highway
And fly across the stars until I'm home
For I would rather rise up from a world of darkness
Than know that you're unhappy and alone
If you kissed me
In my dreams tonight
Oh, that would feel all right
If I woke up
Far from your side
Oh I would want to cry
And rise into the blue above the highway
And fly across the stars until I'm home
For I would rather rise up from a world of darkness
Than know that you're unhappy and alone
For I would rather rise up from a world of darkness
Than know that you're unhappy and alone

On a snowy day in NC, I called up Zack (the boy) who was DJing at 'XYC, and requested "It's coming down". Strangely, they had it. He played it, and it was THE MOST APPROPRIATE REQUEST IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE.

"When the snow comes over dixie, there's a blessing on your town
On account of winter, Missus Braintree
The stores are closed the streets are filled with vagabonds
Its coming down
Go home, go home and take a snoooooooowdaaaaaaay"

I heard it requested on the K here, too, driving to work in the snow. It wouldn't have been quite as rare, seein how Minneapolitans are much more used to both snow and the band...

Actually, the song is called "Snow Days"...

but, yes, one of my favorite TS songs, right next
to "Toolmaster of Brainard"...

Yes, I have a copy of the album...the song is from "Lulu", which, because of stupidity on the part of A&M, is out of print, as is their "Across The Universe" album...bleh...

In any case, I don't care if you're a slacker...we love you anyway, and as soon as I find out which box it's in, you can have it...

hey, in case you wanted to build up karma points, would you be interested in helping us clean this week? You could come over, I'd give you the CD and we'd have a smashing good time...er, or whatever...
