After some very decadent post-anniversary dessert, S4 and I went to the movie store.

We rented this because it looked like it might be funny and we may want something funny to wash out the lingering weirdness of Mulholland Drive, which we also rented. I saw it in the theatre when it came out and I don't think I ever really decided if I liked it or not. It's Lynch-y, and there were things I definitely liked, but I am looking forward to seeing it again and seeing what else I can find. If nothing else, I like most Lynch for the bits of things and timelines that my brain puts together after seeing them a few times.

The girl on the cover of the comedy also reminds me a lot of [livejournal.com profile] lucyruthe. I think it's the downward glare and hair bits that are similar to punk-rock-Dorothy.

On the way back from the movie store we saw the Galactic Pizza Gizmo scooting up 25th street. I now know that seeing the Galactic Pizza Gizmo out and about saving the universe one pizza at a time causes S4 and I to spontaneously and simultaneously erupt in applause and "Yay!"s. Fun.

Movie Time!

Edit: Decided I like Mulholland Drive. Which is good, since I've ended our misery of the second film before it even got to 10 minutes. Wow, is it bad. WOW. If shit like that can win a dinky film festival for Best Comedy, christ, everyone who ever spent five minutes on the cable access stuff I did with [livejournal.com profile] happydoc and [livejournal.com profile] vaxjo nearly 10 years ago deserves accolades from the Academy, red carpets, hookers, drugs, and premiere parties with limo rides. I want those 10 minutes and my $4 back. And I will never give s4 any more crap about picking out Resident Evil ever, ever, ever again.

Mulholland Drive is brilliant. and gratuitously stupid. at the same time. David Lynch is an erratic genius. he is the undisputed ruler of several important fiefdoms in my world.

In the theatre...

When we saw Mulholland Drive in the theatre, the movie broke at one point and since we hadn't seen it and it was soooo weird to begin with, we didn't know if it was over or not. No credits. Just a black screen. But, then they started the movie back up and all was well. That was one awkward moment when everyone was like "is that it?"

I got bored halfway through MD and shut it off. And I have very little interest in trying it again.

BTW, I had ordered a GP which arrived at appx. the same time you saw that Gizmo on 25th. Though our driver was headed back to the shop so it seems unlikely it was the same one. I wonder if there's still an extra uneaten slice in the fridge...

yeah, i liked mulholland drive quite a lot.
we watched it really late at night a summer or two ago, finished around 3 am, and then restarted it almost immediately (since i wasn't going to stop being weirded out anytime soon anyway, I figured, may as well watch it again so i could feel less confused)--it's definately one you have to see a couple times. :)
