short, nonspecific work rant

OH MY GOD JUST TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT SO I CAN TRY TO HELP YOU, ALREADY.

Gee, I NEVER get calls anything LIKE that at my job.

"___ Support, this is Amy"
"I need help"
"okay, what can I help you with?"
"Is your server down?" ("server"? Singular? I do hope people realise that we don't run on ONE server...)
"Umm, not that we're aware of, are you having a specific problem?"
"Yeah, it says it can't connect."

I can't believe I get these kinds of calls, but you know...

Sounds like you need Twitter!

Man, doesn't that CRUISE CONTROL feel good? I like that you've used it correctly.

"I just want someone to complain to..."

Sometimes a customer at the store will completely skirt around the actual question that they want to ask and will whine endlessly instead. I often wonder if my face shows my irritation at all because, on the inside, I am imagining myself smacking them upside the head.

I get really tired of the long stories around the problem/request and also long for a direct "I need X".

I'm with ya. It is frustrating. I've gotten pretty good at "So what I hear you saying is...", frequntly followed by, "Ah, I see. So what was it that you really wanted to do when you ran into problem y?"

But it sure would be a whole lot simpler if I didn't have to do all that crap. And there're people who will make an end-run around all efforts to de-fuckify them.

(And I've been that guy, too.)
