Ion is dead. Needs the main board replaced, to the tune of $400. And then there's shipping. If we count the trip to the shop last year that put me back ~$100, if I get this guy fixed again, I'll have spent more on repairing it than I did on purchasing it.
I haven't totally decided, but I think I might never see my 'board again.
...
Anyone have opinions on 88-key weighted or semi-weighted controllers?

Date: 2007-09-26 12:50 am (UTC)I was also quite pleased with the Fatar Studio 88 controller/battering ram, but after a dozen+ years of general abuse the mod wheel and the carrying handle became nonfunctional, and I opted to replace it with the S08 for the added sounds rather than walk the path of repairs plus labor plus shipping.

Date: 2007-09-26 02:18 pm (UTC)My local feller here in Carrboro has been stocking 88-key boards that're marketed by Casio, under the name Privia. He says the action is actually made by Yamaha. It feels and sounds pretty good. He's got the display unit set up next to a mid-90's Kurzweil 88-key, and while the action is not quite as nice as the Kurzweil, the sound is actually quite a lot better. They're super-lightweight (for an 88-key), too.
But it might be a good idea to take my opinion with a grain of salt... =%>
